6 Things to Consider when Buying a New PS4

The PlayStation 4 has broken all records of sales and is the clear winner of this generation. We have gotten so many exclusives like God of War and Spiderman, which all the PC and Xbox players secretly wish for.

You might not have had a PlayStation 4 from the beginning due to some reason, but now you want one. I would say this is the perfect time to buy one as it is almost the end of the generations, and the platform has countless games available for it. You can get the games very cheap as well if you buy them used.

Here are a few things you want to consider when you want to buy a new PlayStation 4.

PS4 or PS4 Pro

The first thing you want to consider is which model of PlayStation you wish to buy. Do you want the PS4 or the PS4 Pro? The PS4 Pro was launched in November of 2016.

  • The simple PlayStation runs games on 1080p while the PS4 Pro can do 4k with a high dynamic range.
  • The Pro is almost a little bigger than the regular PS4.
  • The PS4 Pro also has a better Graphical Processor with an additional 1 GB Ram.
  • The PS4 Pro can also give you higher frame rates when playing on 1080p

If you go for any one of those, you will still play the same games. Consider the new PS4 prices, and if your budget can allow it, then we recommend that you go and buy the PS4 Pro for an overall better gaming experience.

As the lifecycle of the PS4 is coming to an end with the release of the PS5, you can get some very nice bundles of a PS4. These bundles include many games with the consoles as well. So always be on the lookout for these.

Hard Drive Space

In the Good old days, you could pop in a disc to your PS2 and enjoy the whole experience right then and there. The only memory extension was the eight MB memory card, which was used to save your progress.

We are officially in the age where game files are exceeding 100s of gigabytes. Games like Red

Dead Redemption 2 and Destiny 2 are examples of games that take 100s of space gigabytes.

Keeping that in mind, you should keep the hard drive space your shiny new PlayStation 4 is coming in.

We recommend you go ahead and start with the 1Tb model as you might be able to store some games in it for regular play. However, you can also go ahead and upgrade it yourself by popping in a laptop hard drive or an SSD for greater capacity. You can also use an external hard drive for your games as well.

PlayStation Plus is needed for Online Play

Unlike PC, where you can play online games for free once you just buy the game, on the PS4, you will need a PlayStation Plus subscription for it. This is absolutely a bummer. We do not like this system of extracting more money for something that has no extra cost to the company. However, we do need to live with it.

However, you also get some extra perks with this. You can get two free games each month on the PlayStation store. These are usually great games. You also get 100GB of cloud storage for your game saves.

PlayStation VR

The PlayStation 4 can also do virtual reality. You will need a specially designed headset for this along with the PlayStation Move controllers. This is worth it as there are great games to choose from, like Skyrim VR.

You only get one Controller

You will only be getting one controller if you buy a regular PlayStation without any bundle. If you want another controller, you will need to buy it separately.

You will also have an HDMI cable, a power cable, and an instruction manual as well.

If you want to buy a PS4, then this might be the best time for it. However, we recommend investing in purchasing the Pro version as this will get you better visuals and a higher frame rate. Try buying a PS4 bundle if you can, as you might find an extra controller and a few free games with it.
